BESPOKE 'glamping pods' will be on offer at a West Fife hotel if plans are approved.

The 100-year-old Inn at Charlestown, formerly the Elgin Hotel, has been recently refurbished "with a modern Scottish style" after it was bought by Steven Campbell in 2020.

He later unveiled a three-phase plan to enable the venue to stay open while work took place.

The plan, now in its third stage, included the completed refurbishment of the hotel and the creation of six balconies and construction of two lodges, which are expected to be finished next year.

There will be four self-catering pods and it is hoped that the addition of these will solve issues around accessibility at the hotel.

They can be installed in a matter of hours, according to documents attached to a planning application, and will therefore cause minimal disruption to surrounding properties.

The accommodation will be erected in disused garden space to the rear of the hotel and will face the car park, where an additional four spaces will be added by rearranging bin storage access.

The 'Mega Pods' will be provided by Lune Valley Pods and will sleep up to four people.

They include a double bed bedroom area, kitchen, shower room and seating and eating area.

Planning documents say that in the two years since reopening the Inn at Charlestown turnover has doubled in comparison to the previous owners' last full year.

There are also 50 weddings expected to take place over the next year.
