A 55-year-old cleaner who sexually assaulted a woman at a Dunfermline bus depot has been sentenced.

Back in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court was Stephen Lyon, formerly of Hill of Beath, now of Brae Court, Glenrothes.

He previously admitted that on 22nd July at Stagecoach depot, St Leonards, he sexually assaulted a woman by seizing her by the buttock and squeezing it.

The court was told Lyon worked as a cleaner at the depot but has now lost that job.

The woman was known to him and her husband was close by when the incident occurred, the court heard.

Depute fiscal Laura McManus said Lyon later told police his actions were “all meant as a joke” and “it wasn’t sexual”.

The woman was left very upset by the incident which had taken place at around 9am, she added.

Defence solicitor Peter Robertson said: “It was an act of the upmost naivety on his part.

“He now understands his behaviour was completely inappropriate. He has meant it as a joke but he was plainly wrong in that respect.”

Sheriff Wylie Robertson imposed a community payback order with six months of supervision and Lyon was put on the sex offenders register for the same period.
