A Kelty man pushed his partner into his car boot during a row and tried to drive off with her still in it.

Fortunately, she had managed to escape before Stuart Muirhead sped off in an intoxicated state having been drinking in a pub.

Muirhead, 48, of Westcroft Way, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for various offences involving the same woman.

He admitted that on 8th October 2021 at Gilfillan Road, Dunfermline, he sent text messages to the woman containing threats of violence, attended at her home, removed a set of keys and threw them to the ground.

(Image: Google Maps)On 13th March last year at The Kings pub on Main Street and at Main Street car park, Kelty, he demanded that the woman accompany him to buy cocaine, demanded that she enter a car, acted aggressively, made a threat of violence towards her, pushed her causing her to fall into the boot of the car and repeatedly attempted to close the boot.

Then in Main Street and Westcroft Way he drove the car dangerously whilst under the influence of alcohol, drove at excessive speed with the boot open and drove away from a police officer at speed.

On various occasions on 16th and 17th March at Gilfillan Road he breached his bail conditions, imposed on 14th March, by phoning his former partner.

Of the first offence, depute fiscal Catherine Stevenson said the couple had been in a three-month relationship but had separated at that time. This led to Muirhead sending the woman a message on social media saying: “You’re getting done in."

She blocked him but he turned up at her door saying he wanted to discuss their relationship.

She opened the door and he went in. She told him she had phoned the police. He took her house keys, left the property then returned, handing them back and apologising.

On 13th March last year, the pair had gone to a pub in Kelty together where they were drinking and watching a football match on TV.

Muirhead had won £40 in a bet and said he wanted to go and buy cocaine. She refused to leave the pub as she wanted to stay there and an argument started.

They went outside and he opened the boot of his vehicle, telling her to get in.

She was sitting on the edge of the boot when he pushed her inside and closed it.

As it had not closed properly, the woman managed to get out before he drove off.

He was driving erratically at speed and the police were contacted.

Later, a police dog handler found the vehicle and then saw Muirhead getting into it.

Another police officer drove alongside Muirhead’s car but he drove off, stopping after 100 metres and running away. He was pursued and caught.

Sheriff Garry Sutherland imposed a community payback order with 160 hours of unpaid work and a four-month restriction of liberty order.

Muirhead was also banned from driving for two years and until he passes the extended test.
