Councillors are set to be asked to "put aside objections" and give the go-ahead for a two-way cycle lane on Dunfermline's Aberdour Road.

Fife Council's City of Dunfermline Area Committee will meet on Tuesday (October 24) to discuss proposals for a cycle lane on the south side of the road between its junctions with Blacklaw Road and Hospital Hill.

Several residents have expressed concerns that the proposed cycle lane would have a negative impact on road safety, particularly the speed and volume of traffic heading down the road.

There have also been worries from residents about crossing the cycle track when accessing driveways, and whether trees on Aberdour Road would have to be removed.

A report by Fife Council's roads and transportation service explains that an independent road safety audit was conducted, and its findings had been incorporated into the design plans.

It adds that the route will not impact the accessibility of people’s driveways, and the mature trees on the road will also be unaffected in the construction of the path.

The report continues: "The active travel route is aimed at increasing the number of short journeys undertaken by sustainable means for leisure, commuting or commercial trips, such as shopping."

The Aberdour Road cycle lane - part of an active travel route - has already been completed between Masterton Road and Blacklaw Road.
