An aerospace centre which aims to inspire young people in STEM has received a £1000 donation from Amazon.

Aero Space Scientific Educational Trust (ASSET) sponsored an innovative challenge for children focusing on STEM.

The winning schools in an Air Race Challenge visited ASSET to design an obstacle course through which to fly their drones. Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Dunfermline donated £1000 to the centre which went towards the cost of inviting 80 pupils to enjoy a day out and flights at Fife airport in May.

Jamie Strain, general manager at Amazon in Dunfermline, said: “It’s a pleasure to make this donation to ASSET. Through educational programmes for all ages, ASSET engages and educates future generations to help them achieve better life outcomes - we couldn’t be happier to support the staff and volunteers in their work.”

The donation was made as part of Amazon’s programme to support communities around its operating locations in the UK.

Alisdair Stewart, chairman of ASSET, added: “On behalf of the team at ASSET, I want to say a huge thank you to Jamie and the team at Amazon in Dunfermline for their support of our work. Their support and generous donation is hugely appreciated as we strive to encourage young people to explore aerospace related STEM opportunities in the world around them.”
