Driving instructors and pupils from Dunfermline have completed a mini relay for Children in Need and in memory of driving trainer, Lou Walsh.
Each year driving instructors across the UK would fundraise for Children in Need by participating in the Big Learner Relay. Instructors would relay the Pudsey top box from driving lesson to driving lesson. Louise Walsh, who created and ran the Big Learner Relay each year, sadly passed away earlier this year.
This year would have been the relay’s tenth and final year. Instructors across the UK instead did their own mini relay in Lou’s memory to continue raising funds for Children in Need.
In Dunfermline, driving instructors met outside the Sweet Chestnut on the afternoon of Thursday, November 16 with their pupils ready to set off in convoy and drive a heart shaped route around the centre of Dunfermline.
Speaking before the event, Nici Thornton, one of the participating driving instructors, said: “Our pupils are very excited to be taking part and looking forward to having a fun and different driving lesson."
Last year the nationwide relay raised £38,000 and over the last nine years it raised £500,000.
After the event, Nici added: "The pupils all had a great time, they thought it was fun and obviously a little different to their usual lessons.
"We don't have any plans to do another one at the moment. Never say never though.
"We are all very proud to have done our little bit in raising money for children in need and also remembering Louise Walsh in our own way."
Anyone who wishes to donate to the mini relay for Children in Need can do so by texting PASS plus the donation amount to 70085, for example, text PASS10 to 70085 to donate £10.
All of the money raised will go directly to Children in Need.
