A Dunfermline man slashed a woman on the face with a knife during a drugs session.

Derek Bryce, 37, a prisoner at Perth, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on January 20 at Headwell Avenue, Dunfermline, he assaulted a woman by striking her on the head with a knife, all to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

The court was told a witness saw the woman leaving the house saying: “I’ve been slashed."

She then collapsed nearby on grass and police found her lying there unresponsive with a 6cm cut to her cheek.

Defence solicitor Chris Sneddon said his client and the woman had been taking heroin together that day and were both intoxicated when an argument broke out between them.

Sheriff Charles Lugton jailed Bryce for two years backdated to January 23 when he was remanded in custody.
