SCOTRAIL has confirmed its services through Fife will be unaffected this weekend when members of the train drivers' union, ASLEF, take part in industrial action.

Strikes will take place at various train operating companies across the UK on Saturday and Sunday and again between Tuesday and Friday. But ScotRail say the dispute, between the trade union and other train operating companies across the UK, does not involve any ScotRail staff.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said: “This dispute does not involve any ScotRail staff. It is between ASLEF and other train operators, which means we’ll be able to operate as normal when the union members at those operators take industrial action between Friday, December 1, and Saturday, December 9.

“We would encourage anyone travelling to plan their journey in advance, as trains may be busier than normal due to customers of other operators travelling with ScotRail.”

CrossCountry, whose trains travel through Fife on their Aberdeen to Penzance route, has urged customers to plan ahead of the industrial action which will mean they will not be running services next Thursday (December 7).

The operator says it services may be subject to short-notice changes between this Friday (December 1) and Saturday, December 9, and customers are advised to only travel if essential this Sunday as strike action and planned engineering work will be affecting large parts of the rail network.
