POLICE SCOTLAND is urging Fifers to be scam-aware in the run-up to Christmas.
They are asking people across the Kingdom to remain vigilant in order to avoid falling victim to scammers.
It’s important to be aware of potential fraudulent activity all year round, but these types of crimes tend to be more prevalent around the festive period.
To help spot fraudulent activity, Police Scotland has issued the following advice: "Never pay using bank transfer when purchasing items online. Use a secure payment method recommended by reputable online retailers and auction sites.
"Only use reputable web pages and open the website by typing into your browser. Be wary of clicking on links on social media or unsolicited messages sent to you.
"Be suspicious if the offer appears too good to be true or the seller is trying to rush you.
"Be wary of texts, emails or messages claiming to be from a delivery company asking you to pay a fee or enter bank details to receive a missed delivery.
"Don’t download software or apps from a source you don’t trust. They may allow access to your device and banking apps."
