A 71 YEAR-OLD man has been taken to hospital after a collision on a West Fife road this morning.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the two-vehicle crash on the A985 near Limekilns shortly before 7am.

The route was closed for several hours while crews dealt with the incident.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to free one occupant of the vehicles and a 54 year-old woman was checked over at the scene by medics.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.50am on Tuesday, 5 December, 2023, police were called to the A985 at the B9156, near Dunfermline, following a report of a two-vehicle crash.

"Emergency services attended and a 71-year-old man was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. A 54-year-old woman was checked at the scene by Scottish Ambulance Service.

"The road has reopened.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted by our emergency service partners at 7.21am on Tuesday, December 5, to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A985 outside Broomhill High Luxe Farm Cottage, Dunfermline.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and specialist resources to the scene where upon arrival crews found a casualty trapped within one vehicle.

“Firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to free the trapped casualty who was transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Crews left the scene at 8.25am after ensuring the area was made safe”.

Providing an update on Twitter/X just after 8.30am, Traffic Scotland stated: "The #A985 remains CLOSED in both directions due to a serious collision near to Limekilns.

"Police and Fire Services are still on scene.

"Traffic is beginning to queue on approach."

The road is understood to have reopened at around 9.20am.
