Dalgety Bay family donates toys to Edinburgh's sick kids hospital

The Fyfe family, Nichola, David and their children, Alex, Jorgie and Derryn, donate goodies to the children at the Sick Kids Hospital twice a year, every year, and they have done since 2015. 

This year they handed over a massive donation worth between £700 and £800 to the hospital on Tuesday last week.

Nichola told the Press: "It went really well, to be honest, we were a wee bit nervous with all you hear on the news about the cost of living, would we still get the same support. 

"As always everybody pulled it out the bag and we did as big a collection, if not even bigger, than previous years, so we haven't been impacted, which has been great."

The family have done this every year since 2015 when their son, Alex, decided he wanted to help the hospital.

Nichola previously told the Press: "My son, Alex, was the inspiration behind it all. He went to the Sick Kids when he was born, he was just 24 hours old and he went and had an operation, he's continued to go there his entire life.

"Quite a few years ago, when he was little, he got an Easter egg left for him when we were staying over Easter and that's where it all started from.

"We said to him that people donate these things, Easter eggs and selection boxes, that's where it all stemmed from and we started doing a Christmas and Easter collection each year."

This year's donation consisted of a big mix of gifts including a buggy and a doll, a train set, toy kitchen supplies, play station games and £10 Amazon vouchers for the older children. 

On top of that they replenished the hospital's supply of Lego and Playdough. 

Nichola and her family are incredibly grateful to be able to hand in these donations to the hospital that helped them through such a difficult time.

She added: "We do tend to get the same people who support us yearly which is great because I'm well aware that there's so many great causes and everybody has charities that are close to their hearts. 

"It's lovely that people continue to support ours year on year."

In particular, she extended her thanks to the Bayside Football Club, Fife Football Fitness, Lloyds Banking Group, the small local businesses that have supported them and all of their friends and family who get involved.

She said: "It's just really touching, how amazing people are and how much people support it."
