Panto season is over at the Alhambra, with the Dunfermline theatre hosting a hugely-successful production of The Wizard of Oz throughout December, so now it's time to look forward to what 2024 has in store.
Already the line-up of music, comedy, theatre productions and other shows makes for impressive reading. From superstar musicians Paul Weller and Paloma Faith, to comedy icons John Bishop and Frankie Boyle, there's plenty on offer at the Alhambra in 2024.
January features tributes to Madonna and Pink Floyd, performed by Into the Groove and the UK Pink Floyd Experience, and the Pop Princesses also take to the stage, performing a soundtrack of top pop hits from artists such as Little Mix, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift and Meghan Trainor, plus songs from favourite films and musicals.
Country fans are in for a treat in February, with 'A Country Night in Nashville', and there's also the chance to see 'The Rocket Man - A Tribute to Elton John', before Limelight Productions take to the stage from Wednesday to Saturday, February 21-24, with their performance of 'The Next Generation School of Rock - The Musical'.
Rock 'n' roll band Showaddywaddy return to the Alhambra at the beginning of March, performing hits including Under the Moon of Love, Three Steps to Heaven, Blue Moon, Pretty Little Angel Eyes and many more.
Also in March Jerry Sadowitz performs his show 'Comedian, Magician, Psychopath!', while 'The Story of Soul' features the music of the likes of Aretha Franklin, Earth Wind and Fire, James Brown, Tina Turner, The Pointer Sisters, Whitney Houston, Ben E King and Barry White.
A busy month continues with the Ukrainian National Opera's interpretation of 'Carmen'; Professor Brian Cox and his show 'Horizon'; a sing-a-long version of 'Matilda the Musical'; 'The ELO show', a tribute to the genius of Jeff Lynne; Irish entertainer Nathan Carter; and comedian Ed Gamble with his show 'Hot Diggity Dog'.
Into April, and Love Island host and comedian Ian Stirling brings his tour 'Relevant' to the city. True crime fans are in for a treat with 'Makings of a Murderer', where Scottish detective David Swindle will investigate some of the UK's most infamous serial killers; and Strictly Come Dancing champion Giovanni Pernice performs 'Let Me Entertain You'.
The already sold-out Paul Weller gig also takes place in April, while the month ends with 'A Beautiful Noise', a tribute to Neil Diamond.
Paloma Faith plays one of only two Scottish dates when she takes to the stage at the Alhambra in May, and there's a treat for Taylor Swift fans, with 'Swiftogeddon: The Taylor Swift Club Night'.
Comedian Frankie Boyle’s show 'Lap of Fame' also graces the stage in May, and there's a musical tribute with the return of the popular Rumours of Fleetwood Mac. At the end of the month, 'The Mousetrap' begins its run at the theatre, marking the 70th anniversary of the world's longest running play.
June features shows celebrating the music of the Bee Gees and Whitney Houston, while there's also a '90s Live' show, full of hits from the likes of Britney Spears, Boyzone, Aqua, Eternal, B*witched, Wet Wet Wet, Ace of Base, S Club 7, Pulp and Blur.
'Mania: The Abba Tribute' is one of the highlights in July, while children’s favourite Peppa Pig comes to the city for 'Peppa Pig’s Fun Day Out'. There's comedy from Al Murray too, while another comedian Paul Smith, who has garnered a cult following and is famed for his incredible crowd work and comedy sets, brings his show 'Pablo' to the theatre in August.
The laughter continues in September as comedy legends John Bishop, Sarah Millican and Ed Byrne will all be performing at the Alhambra, and there's a couple of musical acts that month too, with 'The Magic of Motown' and Ben Portsmouth performing his tribute to Elvis.
There's another Taylor Swift tribute in October, with 'TaylorMania'; and then in November, it's comedian Paddy McGuinness with his show 'Nearly There…', followed by the return of Martin Kemp with his 'DJ Set', comedian Gary Meikle, and an early Christmas treat from Anton Du Beke and friends.
More shows will be added throughout the year, with full details and ticket information available at the Alhambra website.
