People in Fife are being urged to be prepared for potentially damaging wet and windy weather as Storm Isha hits the country.

The first of today's weather warnings for strong winds covering Fife has come into effect - with further warnings for heavy rain and even stronger winds to follow this afternoon and evening.

With Storm Isha beginning to have an impact in Scotland, a Met Office yellow warning for wind currently covers all of the country, with the likelihood of some disruption to travel, and the possibility of flying debris and some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs. This warning remains in place until noon tomorrow (Monday, January 22).

A second yellow warning for heavy rain covering part of Fife comes into effect at 3pm today, and could lead to some flooding and transport disruption. That warning continues until midnight.

Then this evening, from 6pm, the warning for strong winds is upgraded to amber, with damaging winds expected to impact on transport and infrastructure. Gusts of 60-70mph are expected in inland areas, and up to 90mph in more exposed areas.

The Met Office warns that flying debris could result in a danger to life, damage to buildings and homes is possible, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down, and travel disruption is likely, including delays and cancellations to bus and train services. 

The amber warning is in force overnight until 6am tomorrow.
