The Rotary Club of Dunfermline is distributing grants worth £3,500 to 14 good causes.

The club had another successful Christmas fundraising drive which featured three initiatives that have become well-known in the city’s festive calendar.

The New Year grant recipients included the Dunfermline Samaritans who received £500.

Then £250 was given each to Aberlour Childcare Trust, Home Start, St Margaret’s Gift, Molly’s Memory, Real Life Options, Salvation Army, Dunfermline Foodbank, St John Scotland, Fife Gingerbread, Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre and Fife Women’s Aid.

Alzheimer Scotland also received £200 and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission got £50.

Alan Condie, club president, said: “Despite the current cost-of-living challenges, the generosity of the Dunfermline public enabled us to raise a five-figure sum through sell-out Dunfermline Abbey concerts by the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines (Scotland); the club’s annual Santa’s sleigh collection in High Street and at Tesco’s Fire Station superstore, and the revived Santa Dash, which saw 100 Santas and elves gallop down High Street, with the option of completing a 5k circuit within Pittencrieff Park.”

The concert raised £4,400 which was distributed to Royal Marine charities, Sea Scouts, and St John’s RC and Limekilns primary schools.

The club is also preparing to support more good causes later this year after their main fundraiser, Ginfest.

Alan commented: “To help inform our choice of further awardees, we will also be holding a special charity Dragons’ Den session to consider pitches for special projects from more prospective beneficiaries.”
