THE Limekilns and Charlestown community gathered on Saturday to wish a happy 100th birthday to a special local resident.
The beacon on the village's pier was lit to mark Lord Elgin's landmark occasion with locals turning out to sing happy birthday.
Limekilns minister, Reverend Norman Grant, explained: "We simply said to people if they wanted to come down on Saturday evening when it was dark so the beacon would show. Quite a few folk came down and it was nice to see the beacon lit again.

"It was nice to celebrate it. Lord Elgin has done a lot of service over the years from serving during the second World War, he was commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and he was also president of the Boys' Brigade for quite a number of years.
"There's a whole lot of things he has done over his life."
