Dunfermline Soroptimist Eva Tyson represented the city club at the annual Scottish Women’s Convention, which took place on Saturday at Holyrood and celebrated the upcoming International Women’s Day (March 8).
It was a truly international affair, attended by women from many countries, who had made Scotland their home, illustrating how diverse and welcoming our country is.
Eva said: "The convention’s theme was universal, with issues such as gender equality, barriers to overcome and even misogyny reared its ugly head. The motto for the day, said one speaker, must be inclusion.
"One encouraging aspect was announced by the deputy First Minister Shona Robison.
"The Convention of the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), which was adopted in 1979 by the United Nations, will be incorporated into Scottish law.
"This was important to hear, because part of the work of the Dunfermline Soroptimist is to stop violence against women."
