Sponsors call for nominations for Community Champion Awards

Our communities in West and Central Fife are filled with many wonderful people who do so much to improve the lives of those around them, so we want to recognise their achievements and incredible efforts to help others.

We’ve a range of categories open for nominations, and we’re looking for you, our readers, to put forward your unsung heroes for the awards.

The sponsors of some of our awards are keen to see as many people as possible being put forward.

Fife Council is sponsoring the Heart of Gold award, and Councillor James Calder, convener of the City of Dunfermline Area Committee, sees the awards as a “really positive way of rewarding those that make our communities in Dunfermline and West Fife so special”. 

He added: “As the City of Dunfermline Area Convener it is wonderful to see the extra effort made by so many, and I know that there are so many who make this such a wonderful place to live.”

Councillor Gordon Pryde, the committee’s vice-convener, echoed those sentiments, saying: “It’s really important that the whole community gets involved and nominates the people in their community that are making a difference, so that they get the recognition they deserve. 

“With so much amazing work taking place, I’m sure we won’t be short of nominations!”

Arnold Clark is sponsoring this year’s Sporting Champion of the Year Award .

Craig England, general manager at Arnold Clark Dunfermline Fiat/Abarth, said: “Sport always rallies communities together, and we look forward to recognising those who have gone above and beyond – both on the pitch and off it.

“We’d encourage everyone in the West Fife, Dunfermline and surrounding areas to get behind their community champions and shine a light on their inspiring efforts and achievements. 

“As a company, we look forward to celebrating the teams and individuals who have made a real difference to their local areas.”

Stagecoach is backing the Young Community Champion category, and is eager to see the tremendous efforts of young people being recognised through the awards.

Douglas Robertson, managing director for Stagecoach East Scotland, said: “The Dunfermline Press Community Champion Awards are an opportunity for individuals, groups and organisations to celebrate the amazing work accomplished across the Kingdom. 

“Whether it’s praising your favourite teacher, encouraging the future leaders of Fife or honouring those making a difference with their entrepreneurial spirit, this is your chance to submit a short nomination and recognise those who make Fife a better place to work and live in.”

There are 11 awards up for grabs and the closing date for nominations in Thursday, April 11.

Those shortlisted for the awards will be invited to our Community Champions Awards night at the Glen Pavilion on Thursday, June 13.
