A beloved peahen in Dunfermline’s Pittencrieff Park sadly passed away yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, March 13).
Katie was a four-year-old white peahen who was brought to the park with her brother Xander from Edinburgh. She was Louis’ partner and the mother of both Skout and Skylar.
The volunteers posted on the Peacocks in Pittencrieff Park’s Facebook page: “It is with very sore hearts that we inform you of the passing of our beautiful 4 year old white peahen Katie, a loss that has devastated us all.
“Her passing was unexpected, however she passed away very quickly and peacefully in the arms of the volunteers this afternoon.

“She had developed peritonitis from a passing a soft shell egg and retaining the yolk and although we had been watching her, peafowl are notoriously good at hiding illness. The video of her was only taken at 9.30am today.
“Katie came to us as a chick with her brother Xander and was Louis girl, he never had eyes for anyone else and was often preening her and cooing at her. We will be keeping a close eye on him and their boy, Skylar as they will both be lost without her.”
Katie has been buried beside her brother Xander, who sadly died in 2021 after being chased in the park by a dog that was not on a lead.
