NHS Fife is introducing a distinctive tunic to identify advanced and emergency nurse practitioners.
Advanced and emergency nurse practitioners are nurses who have done advanced academic and clinical training. They work in hospitals, community care, and GP practices.
Having ANPs and ENPs wear purple tunics is part of a national pilot.

Advanced practice nurse director, Mairi McKinley said: “We are just starting our journey in NHS Fife, but other Health Boards in Scotland have had a similar process and the feedback from staff, patients, and visitors has been positive.
"People will start seeing the new tunics this week across healthcare services where advanced or emergency nurse practitioners are located.”
The new tunics will be purple. The different colour should enhance role visibility in emergency situations, reduce confusion between roles, make identification of staff clearer, and increase trust and confidence in decision-making.
