A DUNFERMLINE digital marketing company has launched an exciting new internship scheme for those looking to start a new career.
Local sisters, Colleen and Alana Reid, work together at Colleen's company Scunnered Digital to provide "nae-nonsense" marketing for Dunfermline businesses.
And now, with years of experience working with top brands under their belts, they've started 'Dive In Tae Digital' to help unemployed people and students get their foot in the digital marketing door.
Colleen told the Press: "I was an intern myself many years ago and it’s during that internship that I picked up the skills and knowledge I needed to get my break in digital marketing.
"The training element of Dive In Tae Digital is honestly great – we’re teaching the exact strategies we used when we worked on big global brands – but it’s the paid work placement element that’s the real gem.
"Young people can’t get a job these days without work experience and they can’t get work experience without a job… we wanted to change that."
Created and delivered by Scunnered Digital, Alana and Colleen are keen to use their hands-on experience to train the 24 individuals, aged between 16 and 30, in the art of digital marketing.
She continued: "Typically, entry-level digital marketing jobs demand a degree – in anything at all, even if it has no relevance. To me, that’s always felt unfair when we know everything you need to be successful in marketing can be taught.
"By upskilling unemployed people, Dive In Tae Digital opens the doors to natural talent and makes digital marketing a level playing field for everyone, from all walks of life."
These interns will go through eight weeks of training with the sisters before being paired up with one of the 24 selected Dunfermline businesses that need support with marketing, for a four-week, paid internship.
And this scheme won't just help those looking for a change in career paths, the aim is to not only help those directly involved, but to bring about a transformation in the community, and hopefully create long-term marketing roles in the city.
Alana said: "I'm really looking forward to launching this programme, but what excites me even more is the ripple effects it brings for our local businesses.
"When 24 businesses up their marketing game at the same time, it won't just be a game-changer; it'll be a community-wide transformation. It's not just about the immediate gains; it's about creating a long-term solution where businesses can continue to thrive for months (& hopefully years) to come.
"Our hope is some businesses will see the true value of investing in marketing and longer-term digital jobs could be created off the back of this programme."
The Dunfermline Area Committee Council, on behalf of Fife Council and Opportunities Partnership Fife, have funded Dive In Tae Digital.
Convener, James Calder, added: "The City of Dunfermline Area Committee are delighted to support the Marketing Intern Project by Scunnered Digital.
"It's great to see local businesses creating projects to offer skills development and hands-on work experience to young people in our community, with the aim of increasing better opportunities for employment."
Applications for the Dive In Tae Digital internship scheme are now open and close at 12pm on Wednesday, March 27.
