A Dunfermline man caused disruption in court, hurling a small medication bottle towards a sheriff who was about to jail him.
Michael Williams had to be tackled in the dock by custody staff at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and dragged down to the cells.
There was uproar in the courtroom with a woman shouting: “That’s what I had to put up with. He’s an animal.”
Williams, 42, of Macbeth Road, was appearing for sentencing for numerous offences which he had previously admitted.
On April 27, 2022, at Inchkeith Drive, Dunfermline, he assaulted a female by headbutting her, punching her on the head and attempting to kick her on the body.
On April 28 and 29, 2022 at Dunfermline police station, he repeatedly shouted and swore, made offensive remarks and repeatedly threatened police officers and other police staff with violence.
He then assaulted a female police custody officer by repeatedly spitting on her head and body. He also assaulted a police officer by spitting on his head and body.
When a court cells officer appeared in the dock indicating a jail sentence was coming, Williams became irate.
He shouted: “F*** this” He then appeared to swallow the liquid contents of a medication bottle then threw it towards the sheriff, narrowly missing him.
He then began fighting with two court cells staff and a police officer before being dragged downstairs.
With Williams continuing to be disruptive in the cells, he was not brought back to the dock for the sentencing.
In his absence, Sheriff Wylie Robertson jailed Williams for 33 months.
