An application to restrict access to a residential car park in Dunfermline was refused this week in the interest of road and traffic safety.
Kingdom Housing Association wanted to install security fencing, gates and bollards at the entrance to the Campbell Street residential car park, but Fife’s planning authority deemed the plans unsafe for pedestrians and road users.
The 42 spaces at 73A to 73B Campbell Street are intended for use by residents who stay in the nearby Linen Quarter, and the housing charity wished to see manually operated sliding gates installed to keep unauthorised vehicles out.
However, the application drew six public objections and was ultimately refused by councillors.
“The proposal would result in a detrimental impact on road safety due to the introduction of manually operated gates required to access the 42 space car park along a road with businesses and residences,” the refusal said.
“This would lead to a conflict in vehicular traffic movements between businesses, residents and car park users through users of the car park requiring to stop in the road when opening and closing gates, and would be detrimental to pedestrian and vehicular safety.”
For now, access to the Campbell Street car park in Dunfermline will remain as it is.
