"GOOD progress" has been made to find developers willing to take on four abandoned housing sites for Fife Council.

First Endeavour LLP was supposed to be building more than 200 affordable homes in Dunfermline, Lochore, Lumphinnans and Kirkcaldy for the local authority but work ground to a halt in December.

Their "failure to proceed" led to the council terminating the contract in March.

Just over a month on and the council's head of housing, John Mills, said: "We're making good progress in our discussions with alternative housing developers to take on the former First Endeavour sites.

"We've found a developer for the site at Fair Isle Road in Kirkcaldy and negotiations are continuing for the remaining three sites."

The site in Dunfermline is at Leys Park Road, on the site of an old council depot, where 45 affordable homes are planned.

Back in March the council's housing spokesperson, Councillor Judy Hamilton, had said: “This is a very unfortunate situation for all involved and not the outcome we would have hoped for.

"Contracts will be dealt with through the council’s procedure and, moving forward, we need to ensure that these much-needed new council houses can be built and allocated with the minimum of delays.”
