GREEN fingered youngsters from Canmore Primary got the chance to pick up some garden resources at a local shop this week.

Pupils popped into B&M Stores on the Halbeath Retail Park after getting in touch asking for donations.

The school's eco-committee had contacted several businesses and were delighted when B&M's manager Richard responded and invited them to visit the store.

Armed with a wish list, they were able to go round the store picking up items to support growing projects in the school.

Depute head Kate McIntosh said shop staff were delighted with the children's interest in growing and being responsible for areas of their school and surrounding environment.

"The children are very keen to be involved in improving their school and wider environment, and growing plants, fruits and vegetables in playground planters and our school garden is one of their key targets for the Eco-Committee," she said.

"B & M were incredibly generous and the children will be very busy over the coming weeks, supporting their classes with their own planting and working as a committee in the school garden too.

"The children involved in the Eco-Committee have a responsibility to report back to classes following meetings and share ideas and projects whilst also taking the viewpoints of their classmates and presenting them at meetings too."

Following the visit, the school has also contacted Duloch in Bloom, who have also received support from the store, to offer the eco-committee's help in any planting or clearing of areas in the local community.
