UNEMPLOYMENT across Fife dipped by 13 per cent in April according to figures released this week.

The number of people in the Kingdom claiming Universal Credits now sits at 7,455 which is 1,080 less than at the same time last year.

The news was welcomed by DWP's External Relations Leader for Fife, Sue Jeffrey, who said efforts to reduce the number of people out of work is continuing.

“Our focus of accelerating customer into work continues." she said. "We have a DWP recruitment event on Friday, June 14 at the Maxwell Centre in Cowdenbeath. 15 employers with vacancies will attend, including Stagecoach, Mitie, Baynes, Todd and Duncan.

"Jobseekers should talk to their work coaches to reserve a space; however, everyone is welcome.

“For jobseekers aged 16-30 years old, we are running a Sector Based Work Academy in collaboration with the Princes Trust and Marks and Spencer.

"This is available in Dunfermline and Glenrothes and is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience working with a leading retailer. The academy will include pre-employment training, work experience and a guaranteed job interview."
