A PROMINENT Dunfermline building is up for let – or possible sale – after laying vacant for seven years.

A sign has gone up at the former Post Office premises in Queen Anne Street indicating that plans previously announced to create a restaurant in the property have been shelved.

Back in 2020, City Hotels Ltd were given listed building consent to make internal and external alterations to form an eatery, the plans included dining for 180 people and a further 50 outside in a garden courtyard area, which was to have a retractable roof.

The building dates back to the 19th century and a decision to close Dunfermline Post Office was made in October 2016 after a six-week public consultation and review.

Services moved to WH Smith on High Street in March 2017, with the building being unoccupied ever since.

Graham and Sibbald are handling the enquiries and their website states that the site extends to just under 6,000 square feet.

The description adds: "The building is of traditional sandstone construction providing accommodation over ground and first floors.

"A single storey extension is of brick construction which has been built to the rear in an approximate horseshoe shape around a central courtyard.

"There is parking available on site for up to seven vehicles."

We contacted the City Hotel Group for comment but they had not responded by the time of going to print.
