A MAN has been arrested after a "serious assault" in Inverkeithing.

The 64-year-old victim had to be taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy after the reported attack in the Roods Road area around 10.50pm on Friday May 10.

Police officers remained on the scene the following morning, with the area to the back of the old Inverkeithing Primary School cordoned off, and made a public appeal for information.

This morning a spokesperson said: "We can confirm a 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

"He is due to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court today (Friday).

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
