MOTORISTS in Dunfermline city centre are facing major disruption this summer with 16 weeks of roadworks to be carried out at the Bothwell Gardens roundabout.

Fife Council say that they will be investing £650,000 in the coming months to improve the road network.

This will include the installation of traffic lights at the Bothwell Gardens roundabout and carriageway resurfacing and signal upgrades at the Elgin Street and Moodie Street crossroads.

Work will start on Monday, June 17 and will last for approximately 16 weeks.

The project will be carried out in three phases, with a road closure on Woodmill Street during phase one.

Temporary four-way traffic lights will be in operation to manage traffic flow which will be manually controlled during peak times and a diversion route will also be in place.

A four-way traffic management system will also be in place at Elgin Street and Moodie Street.

The council's transport spokesperson, Councillor Altany Craik, said: “We maintain over 2,400km of roads in Fife and we’re spending millions each year repairing and improving them.

“Our road network is vital to support economic development, inward investment, tourism, leisure and travel to work. Almost everyone in Fife uses our roads daily, which is why this type of maintenance work is so essential.”

Access will be maintained for emergency services, businesses and residents as well as for Dunfermline City railway station car park and Bothwell Street car park.

Bus services will be affected during these works with more information available from the Stagecoach website.

Cllr Craik added: “Roadworks in Dunfermline city centre will cause delays - please give yourself extra journey time. We apologise for any inconvenience; your patience is greatly appreciated.”
