A COMPANY in Dunfermline has donated more than £12,000 to the charity started by country and western superstar Dolly Parton.

Better World Books is a for-profit business and a global online bookseller that has been supporting the The Dollywood Foundation, home to the singer's Imagination Library.

Dolly started it in 1995, as a response to her father's illiteracy, and it provides free books each month to more than three million children in five countries.

At their Pitreavie HQ recently, Better World Books' president and chief executive officer, Dustin Holland, presented a cheque of £12,909 to Marion Gillooly, executive director of the UK arm of the foundation.

Ms Gillooly said: "I am thrilled to accept this fantastic donation on behalf of Dolly and everyone at The Dollywood Foundation.

Dunfermline Press: Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is set to come to Dunfermline.

"Thanks to Better World Books and the generosity of its customers, we will be able to get books into the hands of many more babies and pre-school children, some of whom would not otherwise have any books of their own at home.

"Helping children experience the joy of books from birth helps give them the best start in life, supporting their learning and development, and inspiring a love of books that will last a lifetime.

"We are very grateful for this generous contribution, which will have a huge impact."

Mr Holland said: "We are deeply honoured to support The Dollywood Foundation UK and their mission to foster a love of reading in children.

"This partnership embodies our commitment to literacy and education, and we are proud to help bring the joy of books to even more young minds throughout the UK.

"Together with our customers, we are making a lasting impact on future generations."
