A SURPRISE road closure has caused traffic congestion in Dunfermline city centre - and a minor headache for the Bruce Festival.

There was no advance warning that the stretch of Holyrood Place, from the mini roundabout at the bottom of Townhill Road and leading to Appin Crescent, was going to be shut.

There's also no information about how long it will be closed for.

BT Openreach are carrying out the works, to fix a "broken BT triple lid manhole cover" on the carriageway.

A diversion sign directs traffic to instead use Gardener's Street, Campbell Street, Pilmuir Street and Carnegie Drive.

The Bruce Festival, which is taking place today and tomorrow in Pittencrieff Park, has attracted thousands of people to enjoy the fun in the sun and, in a bid to alleviate parking problems in and around the Glen, they organised a shuttle bus service.

Kindly provided by the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum at Lathalmond, the free service runs from Leys Park Road to the park but it has also had to divert via Campbell Street.

Unfortunately, with cars parked on that street, it reduced traffic flow to one lane which meant there were delays and gridlock on Campbell Street and Pilmuir Street.
