SCOTLAND'S national drink may get a tech twist thanks to a father and son team from Aberdour.

David and Steven Coutts, founders of Meta Dram, plan to offer enthusiasts the chance to own, trade and sell unique whisky releases via their innovative platform.

And to mark its launch they're introducing the Echelon Spitfire landmark edition, an Orkney cask strength single malt that's been matured for 15 years.

The whisky commemorates the 257 spitfires lost during the Battle of Britain in 1940 and each bottle represents and includes the documented story of a specific aircraft.

Steven said: "For David and me, Meta Dram was born out of our deep love for Scottish heritage, history, whisky and technology. This combination felt like the perfect synergy.

"Our goal is to bring releases to the market that not only focus on the whisky itself but also highlight significant landmarks, events, and moments in history.

"We hope our releases serve as a portal for enthusiasts to learn and reflect, particularly through our Landmark series, which honours the past."

Through a partnership with the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, Meta Dram will give a donation to the charity for every Landmark bottle sold.

And they're planning further releases, which will be tokenised, and aims to redefine whisky ownership by combining these new releases and blockchain technology - an advanced database mechanism that allows transparent information sharing within a business network.

They want to create a community of ‘Meta Drammers’ who share the company’s passion for whisky, giving them a platform to buy, sell and trade the spirit and build their own whisky portfolios.

When a new whisky is made available, it will be still in cask form. Potential buyers will then have the opportunity to buy their share of the whisky in the form of a token.

Each token represents 70cl (standard bottle) of the whisky. Over time, as the drink matures, the value may change and buyers can elect to sell, trade or keep their share.
