MOTORISTS are being warned of disruption with overnight road closures planned for a major West Fife route.

The A823(M) between the M90 and the Pitreavie Roundabout will shut westbound overnight on Monday (June 10) and eastbound on Tuesday to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out a variety of routine maintenance tasks.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close the carriageway while these works are carried out.

"However we’ll be taking advantage of the closures to carry out as many routine maintenance tasks as possible, reducing the overall need for closures and traffic management.

“We’re grateful to road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”

On Monday night, northbound and southbound traffic on the M90 wishing to join the A823(M) will be directed to exit at Junction 1C Admiralty and follow a signed diversion via the A985, B980 and A823 to Pitreavie Roundabout, adding approximately 2.4 miles and four minutes to affected journeys.

An alternative signed diversion will be in place for northbound traffic on the M90 that misses the exit at Junction 1C.

Traffic will be directed onwards to turn at Junction 3 (Halbeath) and return southbound to join the diversion route from Junction 1C. This will add approximately 7.3 miles and 11 minutes to affected journeys.

On the night of June 11, a diversion route will be signposted via the A823, B980 and A985 to Junction 1C Admiralty, adding approximately 0.2 miles and one minute to affected journeys.

Works – which will take place from 8pm until 5.30am on both nights – will include gully cleaning, road sweeping, removal of vegetation and carriageway repairs.
