THE SITE of a Rosyth pub that has been closed since 2019 has now been put up for sale.

Time was called on the Sportsman Bar, on Burnside Street, with the owners stating the business was "not viable".

Planning permission was granted in February to demolish the pub and replace it with six two-bedroom apartments with en-suite facilities and private residents parking.

The site is being marketed by Morgans with an asking price of offers over £145,000.

They've described it as an "excellent development opportunity" and said the half acre plot is a generous size.

The Sportsman shut for good five years ago and Fife Council agreed with Scott Adamson, from the City Hotels Group that owns it, that there was "no realistic prospect" of finding someone to take it on and make a success of it.

In agreeing the plans in February, the local authority had acknowledged: "It is considered that sufficient evidence has been provided to demonstrate that the existing business is not viable and the existing building could not be re-used for its existing purpose.

"Furthermore, supporting information has been provided which outlines the alternative existing facilities within the local community."

A statement on behalf of the City Hotels Group had described the condition of the pub as "poor" and said the licensed trade was facing "considerable economic and social challenges".

It owns several pubs, clubs and hotels across Fife, including the Gladyer Inn in Rosyth, the Adamson Hotel in Crossford and Lourenzo's nightclub in Dunfermline.

A statement on behalf of Mr Adamson had said: “He is confident about the viability of many of other licensed premises under his control, but he is not confident the Sportsman Bar can remain a viable licensed premises."
