A SUDDEN power cut this afternoon (Friday) has affected homes and businesses in Dunfermline, Inverkeithing and Kincardine.

Outside of West Fife, Alloa and Burntisland also experienced an outage. SP Energy Networks said they had "no advance warning" of the power cut at 2.30pm.

It also affected mobile phone networks.

Sharing the news of the issue on X (formerly Twitter), they wrote: "We are aware of a #POWERCUT affecting the Dunfermline, Burntisland, Alloa, Inverkeithing and Kincardine areas. Our engineers are working to restore supplies. Sorry for the inconvenience."

On the website, they had added: "We had no advance warning of this and first became aware of it at 2.30PM.

"Our control centre will attempt to restore your electricity supply remotely, and we will also send our next available engineers to the area to find and fix the fault as quickly and as safely as possible."

SP Energy Networks said they expected to have power restored by 4.30pm but they were able to deploy engineers and had power restored before then.

A spokesperson added: “We’re sorry for an interruption to the power supply to customers in Dunfermline this afternoon. This was caused by a fault on the line feeding our Dunfermline and Inverkeithing stations.

"We deployed our engineers quickly and safely and operated a staged restoration to restore power quickly to all.  We thank customers for their patience.”
