BLAIRHALL'S history has been put on show in an effort to highlight the village's rich mining heritage.

An interpretation board providing information on the colliery has been unveiled in the memorial garden.

With background on the local mine, it also provides information on some of the sporting personalities who grew up in the village.

The idea came from former Blairhall man George Stewart, who now lives in Kincardine.

"My father was a miner and I go up to Blairhall regularly and I always have time in the memorial garden," he explained.

"When I was sitting there, I was always saying there's nothing to tell you anything about the village and of the mining heritage so I tried to find a place that did proper signs.

"I found that and got a price and I then had a meeting with Fife Council and they came up with the funding."

One of the people mentioned on it, ex-Dunfermline Athletic footballer Kenny Ward, attended the unveiling ceremony as well as local residents and pupils from Blairhall Primary School.

George added: "My idea was to get the kids involved with the aspect of them knowing a bit about the history and maybe being involved in the community garden, just to show an interest in it."
