DALGETY BAY had festival fever on Saturday with a gala that turned out to be a "huge success" with thousands of people attending.

With a parade, the Royal Party crowning and opening ceremony, big rides in the entertainment zone, local groups holding performances, community stalls and an array of music, there was plenty to enjoy.

Katy Stollery, from the gala committee, told the Press: "It was an amazing day, it ran so smoothly and we reckon we had about 4,000 people there so it was a huge success.

"The wind caused us to take a couple of inflatables indoors but other than that, all the hard work paid off and everything else ran really smoothly. We've had a lot of amazing feedback in terms of how inclusive it was in terms of all the different parts of the community and groups that were involved."

There was a music festival theme to this year's event and a line-up of bands and solo singers across different stages, including Alan Black Ward, Bears with Feathers, Roy Jarvis, local group Woody and the Dogs, The Kings of Marigold, Cheap Escape and headline act Suited and Booted.

Katy added: "Obviously, the sunshine helped greatly, it always makes for a better day when the sun comes out but it was a very nice atmosphere.

"Thank you to all the volunteers because we have built a bit of an army now and I'd love to say thank you to them for coming along and giving up their free time to help us run the day. Without them, we couldn't do it."

The committee also extended their thanks to the local businesses that contributed and supported the event.
