A COMMUNITY hall in Charlestown is to power up for an electrical upgrade.

Members of Fife Council's South and West Fife Area Committee agreed a funding award of just over £20,000 for work at Queen's Hall.

The electrical wiring, general and emergency lighting and residual current circuit breakers within and throughout the Queen’s Hall will all be upgraded. This includes the entrance hall, foyer, toilets, recreation room, library, main hall and kitchen.

In some areas, improvements will also be made to the heating.

The hall is currently run by a committee and £9,361 has also been received from the National Lottery.

Committee convenor Cllr David Barrett, said: “The hall committee have already been successful in their bid for funding from the National Lottery. I’m really pleased that councillors have unanimously agreed to give a further £8,000 for the local budget.

“Queen’s Hall is an important local asset which plays a large part in the life of the village.

"The group who look after the hall have put a lot of time and effort into raising money so far and will raise the balance of the money needed through activity revenue and crowd funding.

"The award from the committee today will help them get so much closer to their target."
