THERE WERE more than 100 call outs to deal with rats in the South and West Fife area last year.

The local authority's pest control responded to a total of 433 requests compared to 318 in 2022-23.

These included 124 for rats, 90 for wasps, 74 for ants, 60 for mice with 41 call outs for issues with bees and seven calls about fleas.

A report to the South and West Fife area committee updated members on the work of the safer communities team.

It added that there was an increase in the number of stray dog reports – 11 compared to six last year. All the dogs found were microchipped however only three had the correct owner details.

Eight were claimed or returned to their owner and the remaining three were passed to an animal charity for assessment prior to being rehomed.
