MORE than £500 has been raised for the Scottish Ambulance Service in honour of a Dunfermline man who died in a road crash.

Gareth Hempseed, who was a member of the Hub 71 bikers club, lost his life in a car accident in Linlithgow, on April 29.

At the 20-year-old's funeral, hundreds of bikers rode through West Fife for 'Gareth's Final Ride' in a heartfelt memorial for the "lovely lad".

Now his former girlfriend, Abbi Rae, has raised £508 in his memory.

She told the Press: "I decided to raise money for the Scottish Ambulance Service to show my appreciation for everything that they did for Gareth the night he passed.

"Gareth was a much-loved man, he had so many friends who were always there for him when he needed them, and they knew he was always a message away too. Gareth was always big on motorbikes and he had his pride and joy, his R6.

"There were plenty nights I’d wait up for him and he’d be out til the early hours just riding with his pals. I’d always get the message 'I’m just out with Lewis.'"

She recalled the strong friendships Gareth forged through his love of motorcycles, the noise at which he would ride through the estate and his desire to have a biker's send-off when the time came.

She continued: "The bike community has shown me just how much support and love Gareth had in life, even after with the convoy for his funeral."

His funeral took place on May 23 with the procession starting in Ballingry before making its way through Crosshill, Lochgelly, Cowdenbeath and Crossgates, before ending at Dunfermline Crematorium.

Gareth’s own bike was given a place in the procession - a touching note that was hailed by his mum, Suzanne Kinloch, and friends and family who gathered to line the streets along the route.

Abbi added: "Everyone is so lost without Gareth, his one-liners, his stupid antics, the smile he always had on his face and most of all, his bike chases.

"I did what I could to look after Gareth in the time we were together, and I hope I’m doing him proud now too.

"First responders and paramedics did all that they could for Gareth the night he passed, I have raised £508 for the Scottish Ambulance Service to show my appreciation.

"I know that everyone who knew Gareth is eternally grateful for the hard work they did that night."
