A SERIES of overnight lane and road closures are taking place on the M876 and A876 - either side of Kincardine - to conduct drainage investigations on the trunk road.

The works commenced on Monday and will continue for five weeks as BEAR Scotland takes the work forward between Bowtrees junction, just over the Forth, and Kilbagie Roundabout, which is to the north of the village.

The closures are taking place between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night, Monday to Friday only.

On July 1 there will be a full road closure, including the Clackmannanshire Bridge, between the A876 Higgins Neuk Roundabout and Kilbagie Roundabout.

Traffic will be diverted via Kincardine Bridge, the A985 and A977, adding approximately two miles and four minutes to affected journeys.

On July 22 the northbound off-slip and southbound on-slip at M876 Junction 3 will be closed.

Vehicles will be diverted via A876 Higgins Neuk Roundabout.

On July 23 the southbound off-slip at M876 Junction 3 will be closed.

Motorists will be asked to divert via M876 Junction 2.

The northbound on-slip at M876 Junction 3 will be closed on July 24 with traffic diverted via Junction 2 again.

Then on July 25 and 26 the southbound on-slip at M876 Junction 3 for traffic to be diverted via A876 Higgins Neuk Roundabout.

The works will clean and survey existing drainage in the area to help maintain the network and reduce the risk of flooding.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East network manager, said: “These drainage investigations will improve the performance of the existing pipework and will inform of any repairs required for the next phase of improvement works in the area.

“We’ll do all we can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.”
