A GROUP of West Fifers have completed their three-day Munro marathon fundraiser.

Keith Paterson, Colin Ross, David Foote, and Zander Pearson gave themselves the challenge of bagging 26 Munros across 100km in three separate ranges in three days for Macmillan Cancer Support and Future Youth Scotland.

The four men are all from the local area, hailing from Dunfermline, Inverkeithing, and Rosyth.

Sadly, Zander was unable to complete the challenge as he sustained an injury on the second Munro on the first day.

However, he did manage to do another five Munros before calling time on his involvement.

“He did tough it out quite considerably.” Keith commented.

The group had to contend with temperamental weather conditions and at times only got four hours of sleep.

Keith added: “We got soaked every single day, not one day we came off the hill with dry clothes.

“My feet were absolutely smashed to bits. It was brutal, it was really, really brutal.”

But the group did enjoy their experience, and Colin added: "I think it was a little more of a momentous challenge than we thought we were letting ourselves in for.

"We went through something and it created a bond that we are kind of yearning for that again."

As previously reported in the Press, the group began their challenge on June 13.

On the first day they headed to the Mamores to cover ten Munros before heading to Lawers on day two to climb seven Munros.

Finally, on day three the friends headed to Glen Shee to bag their final nine mountains.

The guys set themselves a fundraising target of £2,000, but have raised more than £3,000.

Keith added: “There was some good banter, it was the only thing that got us through.

"Just having a laugh in the face of adversity.”
