ANGRY rail passengers on their way to work say they were left behind on the platforms at Rosyth and Inverkeithing stations.

Those who did make it on board the ScotRail service travelling to Edinburgh at 7am yesterday (Wednesday) were in for a packed journey as the train only had two carriages.

It's the latest incident of overcrowding on the Fife Circle railway and comes just weeks after promises were made that services were "on the right track" and 3,000 extra seats were being added.

Earlier this year, Dunfermline councillor James Calder said passengers were "packed like sardines" due to a lack of carriages on peak services and said Fifers were being treated like "second class citizens".

And last year Murdo Fraser MSP raised the issue during First Minister's Question Time at Holyrood.

He did so after seeing commuters left on the platform amid the morning rush hour at Inverkeithing.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said: “We know that one of the biggest concerns for our customers is busy trains, and we are sorry to any customer who experienced overcrowding on their journey."
