THE new president of the Rotary Club of Dunfermline is planning a range of initiatives for this year, including supporting the 2024 Press Christmas Toy Appeal.

Retired accountant David Walker was installed in the presidency on June 27, following in the footsteps of predecessor Alan Condie.

David is now the driving force behind an ambitious 2024-25 programme of projects.

The club’s portfolio of charitable grant-giving activities in the current year saw over £20,000 of direct financial donations to a range of good causes.

As well as supporting the Press toy appeal later in the calendar, the club plans to give added support to charities who help families living with disabled children, to continue to develop inter-club collaboration, and to heighten the club’s visibility.

“My team of conveners is already focused on building on the club’s highly successful year under Alan’s presidency, by adding new dimensions to our community-service mission - to continue to make fund-raising fun and make a difference in Dunfermline and beyond," David commented.

He has been a member of the Dunfermline club since 1995 and has served for over twenty years on the boards of three of the four UK Carnegie Trusts.

David added: “We are grateful for the unfailing support of the Dunfermline public which has enabled us to establish the May GinFest as a popular fixture in the city’s social calendar, alongside our Christmas fund-raising favourites – the Santa Dash, Santa’s sleigh collections and the Dunfermline Abbey concerts with the Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland.

“As well as our direct financial donations to a raft of good causes, our members have continued to provide driver and food-drive support to Dunfermline Foodbank and schools and youth engagement through such activities as our annual technology challenge, primary-school competitions and support of the annual inter-club Kids Out event for children with additional support needs.”
