A ROSYTH STEM worker will be testing out the runway this weekend as she competes for the Miss Great Britain Edinburgh title.

Sarah Ghavabesh, 26, who has gone out to local primary schools to provide STEM outreach sessions, is hoping to give young West Fife girls the "confidence to embrace their own unique beauty, whatever their background."

She told the Press: "I think society pigeonholes women a lot, you need to do this, you need to have this image, you have to dress that way and I think that’s a very outdated concept, especially for younger girls in this day and age.

"With social media, the pressure is immense and I don’t want someone to feel like they have to be just one type because, at the end of the day, everyone is fluid to be whatever they want to be."

Sarah, who unexpectedly fell into the world of pageants, has commended the warm welcome she has received.

"There’s a lot of quite amazing people," she continued, "There’s such a sisterhood and such a strong bond between the girls. It’s a really welcoming community. Everyone’s been so welcoming, so lovely and really supportive.

"There’s no competition between each other, everyone works together to help and motivate each other and if I'm going through tough times, the girls are so supportive.

"We do so much charity work as well, which I wasn't aware of before, I think a lot of people don’t see that but they do a lot of fundraising for Cancer Research and for Alex’s Wish.

"We’ve raised so much money, thousands of pounds for these charities which has been great and it feels really nice to be able to do that, to give back."

This weekend, she will be walking in three different categories at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh in the hopes of winning both the title and the platform.

But regardless of if she wins, she hopes to spread one message to the young girls across the Kingdom: "Don’t let any outside influence sway you from what you want to do and if you’ve got that desire to do it, go and do it. Don’t let someone else’s opinion of you change who you believe you are.

"Be confident in your own skin, don’t feel like you have to be someone for something that’s not you, just be yourself.

"It’s like comparing the sun and the moon, they just shine differently so there’s no point in comparing."
