A POSTAL voter was incorrectly turned away for showing up at a polling station without identification.

A source told the Press that they tried to hand in their postal vote this morning, but were told that they could not do so without some form of ID.

The voter first attended Parkneuk’s polling station on Blackburn Avenue in Dunfermline.

They were turned away for not having ID, but then went along to Baldrigeburn’s station.

There the source was able to hand in their postal vote.

After finally being able to hand in their ballot, the source called Fife House to get some clarification on the issue.

They were initially told that they would be required to provide ID, but were then told that actually, this was not the case.

The individual commented: “What I’m really concerned about is that they have been giving wrong information, so I am concerned it’s not just one polling station.

“Have they told everybody that postal votes handed in need to be backed up with ID?

“They are making it harder and harder for people to vote at the best of times, but to get something so fundamentally wrong.

“It’s awful, it’s absolutely awful.”

Council staff at Limelight Studio, being used as a polling station today, even told the source that they had checked with one of the inspectors of staff from Fife House.

“The inspector had also given them the wrong advice, they also said that I should have had ID," they said.

“The whole process is so, so important and to get something so fundamentally wrong is so inexcusable."

“I am really worried about the national repercussions, "they added.

Fife Council issued guidance earlier in the week about what is required for voting in the General Election.

Fife House in Glenrothes is open for members of the public to attend to have replacement postal vote packs issued right up until the deadline of 5pm on the day of poll.

What has Fife Council said in response?

A spokesperson for Fife Council stated: “People needed appropriate ID to arrange for a replacement pack to be sent to one of the collection points for pick up.

"ID is also needed if people are coming to pick up a replacement pack.

“ID is not needed if you're handing in a postal vote at any polling station but you do need to fill in a form.”
