A DUNFERMLINE teacher has achieved her goal of losing enough weight to ride a camel in Morocco with her son, with a little unlikely help.
Andrea Reid, who started her weight loss journey last April so she could do more with her son, Ollie, lost an incredible 7st 3.5lbs in the first year of her weight loss and was aided in keeping motivated by the popular online marketplace website, Vinted.
She told the Press: "The whole idea was that I just put on so much weight after a relationship broke down and I was just comfort eating all the time. I got so unhealthy and I was just not liking myself.
"I found that I wasn’t enjoying my normal life because I'm normally a very active, outgoing, spontaneous person and I found I wasn’t doing that.
"I was probably that big for about five or six years and I kind of thought these are times when I should be enjoying stuff and doing stuff with my son, and yes I did, but not as much as what I would have done.
"I lost most of it because I wanted to be healthy for him and I wanted to do really good, exciting stuff again, and involve him."
As she started to shed the weight, Andrea was constantly having to buy new clothes, in smaller sizes.
She took to buying fast fashion and then, when they grew too big for her, she would sell them on Vinted for as little as £2.
In order to maximise her sales, she would take photos of herself in the clothes and because of that, it meant she was able to look back on her progress.
She continued: "I could actually see in the mirror, when I was taking the pictures, how much I've changed, from my very first photographs on vinted to now.
"Which has been quite nice actually, you notice how much you’ve lost when things are looking smaller and things are looking better on you."
Andrea is just 2lbs shy of her target weight and she is excited to reach and maintain it.
For now, she is still riding the high of achieving her goal of riding a camel, which she achieved on holiday with Ollie.
She said: "On holiday there we went to Morocco and we did quad biking, aqua karting, I got involved in all the activities at the hotel; from the aqua gym to archery to bowling, and I felt confident doing all these things.
"I kept on joking at Slimming World, saying, ‘I'm only doing it so I can get on a camel’, but I did.
"I got on a camel three times and I felt absolutely fine doing it- I didn’t think I was going to kill the thing!
"I really enjoyed the fact that I could do all those activities, and my son was loving it as well."
While she is loving the weight loss, she is also loving how she feels now, and everything that she and her son can do together with her newfound energy.
In the future, Andrea wants to complete the West Highland Way and is currently gearing up to complete a 10k with her son.
She added: "Before, I didn’t feel confident, I just wanted to hide and I just felt disgusted with myself because I had let myself get that big and that unhealthy.
"Now, I feel energised, I feel like I've got so much energy and I want to go and do lots of things. I want to keep on getting fitter."
