FOUR way traffic lights in Dunfermline are part of a major project to upgrade the city's electricity network.

The traffic measure is currently in place at the junction of Townhill Road and Gardners Street as part of the work being carried until around September.

It is uncertain how long the latest traffic lights will be in place for.

As reported previously in the Press, SP Energy Networks is investing £3m in Dunfermline to modernise the electricity network, increase its resilience and prepare it for the connection of more low-carbon technologies like electric vehicle chargers and heat pumps.

The essential works will upgrade the Dunfermline to Netherton circuit on the network, replacing underground cables totalling 4.7km in length.

The upgrade works started at the end of March and are expected to be completed in September.

The affected cable route runs from Elgin Street, along Comely Park, through Dunfermline Park and up Townhill Road, ending at the north side of Townhill Community Park.

When the work was announced, SP Energy networks said affected roads would remain open during the works but temporary traffic management systems and lane closures would be in place as work progresses on a phased basis.
