COMMUNITY police officers have been patrolling West Fife after further reports of dirt bikes being used recklessly.

Officers carried out foot patrols earlier this week along the coastal path after more incidents in Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay.

Cllr David Barratt, of the Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay ward, commented: “It’s been ongoing for a couple of years at least, but it’s getting worse this year.

“It seems to be more common for young people to want to have these dirt bikes and use them quite recklessly.”

Discussions have been had with local police and council officers and the main advice is to ask people to report any incidents, no matter how small they might think the information is.

Cllr Barratt added: “They [police officers] have confiscated a few bikes but it’s an uphill battle for them.

“They seem to be increasing.”

However, there is one group who are working to create safer communities by providing controlled areas for people to enjoy off-road motorcycling.

Kingdom Off Road Motorcycle Club does this to reduce anti-social and illegal use of off-road motorcycles.

They also provide social awareness and re-education programmes across Fife.

The club is currently working towards an indoor, all-weather track facility.

In December last year, South and West Fife area committee agreed £900,000 of funding to go towards 23 community projects.

Kingdom Off-Road Motorcycle Club was allocated £100,000 towards an off-road motorcycle track.
