FIFE Council will pause their planned roadworks in High Valleyfield to allow the gala parade to go ahead.

A local authority notice announced that a project to tackle potholes and smooth the carriageway surfaces will see five streets in the village closed between Friday, August 2, and Tuesday, August 6.

There will also be drainage improvements.

However the gala takes place on Saturday August 3 and a rolling road closure for the parade route takes in some of the same areas where works are planned.

The Press asked the council if there would be a pause and a spokesperson confirmed: "In regard to Valleyfield Gala parade, we have been in touch with the contractor who has been made aware no works will take place on August 3 to ensure the gala parade can go ahead as planned."

He added that the gala organisers would also be notified.

The road improvements will be carried out on Abbey Street - from the junction with Chapel Street to the junction with Valleyfield Avenue - and the entire length of Chapel Street, Forth Crescent, Ochilview Drive and Chapel Place.

Temporary road closures and signed diversions will be in place with the work planned to take place daily between 7.30am and 5pm.

The council added that access for emergency services, residents and pedestrians will be maintained.

A separate council notice says there will be a temporary rolling road closure along the gala parade route on Saturday August 3 from 10.45am to 12.15pm.

This takes in parts of Preston Street, Dunimarle Street, Woodhead Street, Valleyfield Avenue, Chapel Place, Chapel Street, Forth Crescent and Chapel Terrace.
