A TIMEFRAME for when work to improve a footway on a major West Fife route will restart remains unclear due to a question over land ownership.
In February, Bear Scotland began a programme of improvements to a path on the A985 trunk road near Charlestown, which was due to take place over a five-week period.
It involved widening the footpath on the southern side of the road, which runs from the Kincardine Bridge to Rosyth, between the junction to Charlestown, at West Road, and that of Waggon Road to Crossford.
However, three weeks after the work began, BEAR Scotland, who are conducting the project, said that it had been halted.
Tommy Deans, their south east network manager, said at the time: "A question has arisen over the precise boundary of the trunk road, so we’ve postponed the rest of these works until we’ve resolved the issue in collaboration with neighbouring landowners.
"Our intention is to return to site to complete delivery of the works later in the year."
Almost five months on from the postponement of work, BEAR Scotland have told the Press that the project remains on hold, as an agreement over the land ownership issue has not yet been reached.
A spokesperson said: "The scheme remains on hold until land ownership is resolved, on which discussions are ongoing to resolve amicably."
Just under half of the 1.1 kilometre stretch of footway work has been completed so far, with more than approximately 500 metres having been widened.
The full length of the path remains open to the public.
